Publications:
- The Network Issued the Third Edition of AWLN Newletter. The third edition includes a letter from teh new chairperson of AWLN, it also highlights the profile of the new Executive Board members. In addition to covering the activies and workshops that were accomplished in May, June, and July. We will be sending this edition to the members by mail soom.
- The AWLN sent the second edition of its newsletter to all members by mail.
- In June 2006, the AWLN distributed the second edition of its newsletter to liaisons at the second annual General Assembly.
- The second edition of the AWLN newsletter- Al Qanouniyat - was issued. The newsletter contained a message from the Advisory Board of the AWLN. It also covered the activities and conferences that took place during the first quarter of 2006 and profiled liaisons from fourteen countries.
- In April 2006, the AWLN distributed the first edition of its newsletter to liaisons. The newsletter was also posted on the AWLN website.
- The first issue of the newsletter was published. It included a message from the AWLN Chairperson, Ihssan Barakat, and a description of the Network’s activities during the last quarter of 2005. Moreover, it contained profiles of Board Members. Copies of the newsletter were distributed to participants in the April 2006 Bahrain workshop.
- The AWLN brochure was developed. It has been distributed as numerous AWLN events. It contains a brief description of the Network, lists AWLN activities, and also addresses registration and membership.
AWLN headquarters:
- The AWLN is in the process of developing, in cooperation with the American Bar Association and with the help of an external consultant, its Strategic Plan for the coming two years.
- A report about the second annual General Assembly was prepared and sent to Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan. The AWLN wanted to inform Her Majesty of the numerous activities that took place during the conference, particularly the election of the new executive board.
- The AWLN recently developed and implemented a new filing system. The AWLN believes the new system will make the retrieval of archived documents more efficient.
- The AWLN has been continually updating its website, and will continue to add additionally information with the goal that the website will cover all the Network’s news and activities. The AWLN Newsletters have been posted on the website and are available to be viewed or downloaded.
- On July 25, 2006, the AWLN submitted a report to the Jordanian Ministry of Interior, which described the second annual General Assembly, listed the new elected board members, and detailed the resolutions passed at the conference. The AWLN is endeavoring to have these resolutions approved by the Ministry of Interior, as discussed in the Network’s Articles of Association.
- In advance of the second annual General Assembly, the AWLN maintained a special file containing all documents related to preparations for the conference, beginning with letters of invitation letters and including media coverage of the event. A filed was also maintained for elections of the new board members.
- The membership list was updated to include contact information for both the new and old members of the Network.
- The AWLN acquired approximately 85 new members. The composition of the new membership was as follows: Algeria (36), Bahrain (2), Egypt (11), Iraq (9), Jordan (9), Kuwait (1), Lebanon (2), Oman (2), Palestine (4), Morocco (1), Tunisia (4), Qatar (2), KSA (1), and Yemen (1). A number of these individuals joined the Network at the second annual General Assembly.
- In April 2006, the AWLN moved into its own office space in the popular Abdoun neighborhood.
- The AWLN opened a special bank account for the Network after signing a Sub-grant Agreement between Judge Ihssan Barakat, AWLN Chairperson, and Stephen M. Katz, Director of Accounting Services for the American Bar Association.
- On February 28, 2006, the Al Qanouniyat website was launched, with comprehensive information about the Network, including membership forms, a calendar for upcoming events, all newsletters, additional resources, and a member section protected by password. The website has been created in both Arabic and English.
